About heic to webp converter
WebP is the format of choice for fast websites: at similar visual quality it is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG and even competes with HEIC. If you publish photos on a blog, store or Lighthouse-tuned site, converting iPhone HEICs to WebP is one of the easiest performance wins.
This tool encodes WebP locally with an adjustable quality slider (40–100). One caveat: exporting WebP requires a Chromium-based browser (Chrome, Edge, Opera) — Safari users should pick JPG or PNG instead.
Why convert in your browser
Truly private
Cloud converters upload every photo to their servers. Here, 0 bytes leave your device — there is no upload code path at all.
No installs
No Microsoft Store extensions, no desktop apps, no browser add-ons. Open the page and it just works.
Unlimited batches
Cloud tools cap free use (CloudConvert: 10 per day). Your own device has no such limit — convert a whole camera roll.
No queue
Nothing to upload means nothing to wait for. Large batches start converting immediately, two files at a time.
Frequently asked questions
Why convert HEIC to WebP instead of JPG?
WebP files are meaningfully smaller at the same visual quality, and WebP also supports transparency. If the images are headed for a website, WebP usually wins. For email attachments or devices of unknown vintage, JPG remains the safest common denominator.
Which browsers can export WebP here?
Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers export WebP fine. Older Safari and some Firefox versions can't encode WebP via canvas — the tool will tell you and suggest JPG instead.
What quality should I pick for WebP?
The default 90 is near-transparent for photos. For hero images where size is critical, 80 is usually still clean. Anything below 70 starts to show artifacts on detailed photos.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No — zero bytes are uploaded. Conversion runs entirely inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. There is no upload code path at all: you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Is there a limit on how many images I can convert?
No. Unlike cloud converters that cap you at 10–25 conversions per day or 200 files per batch, this tool converts as many files as you like, because your own device does the work.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes — any modern browser works (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari). It is especially handy on Windows, where opening HEIC files normally requires codec extensions from the Microsoft Store.
